Acton Ostry Architects is seeking a recent architectural graduate or junior level Intern Architect, Architect or Architectural Technologist to join our practice.

Established in 1992, Acton Ostry Architects is a leading Canadian architectural practice recognized for the design of eloquent and inspiring buildings. Our projects are grounded in extensive research into their historical, social and cultural contexts. We seek to build upon and thoughtfully respond to the unique character and spirit of place inherent to each site.

We apply a rigorous and collaborative design approach to all our diverse educational, community, residential and worship projects. The approach is marked by clarity of purpose and creative problem solving, with a fine balance of innovation, sustainability and experience-based pragmatism. We have a keen interest in mass timber and Passive House.

Our 40-member team works in a bright, spacious, open-concept studio in the heart of vibrant, eclectic Mount Pleasant.

Acton Ostry Architects is growing and as part of our expansion initiative, we are transitioning from a Mac platform primarily using Vectorworks and SketchUp to a PC environment utilizing Revit for production of construction documents.

What We’re Looking For

We seek self-directed, highly motivated individuals with strong time management and problem-solving skills who are interested in contributing to our ongoing pursuit of architectural excellence. Specifically, this junior position includes digital modeling, rendering, research and data management within project teams to support development of design concepts, as well as generation of content for use in promotional material and social media. Candidates for the position should possess the following attributes and qualifications:

• a degree in Architecture or Architectural/Building Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution

• collaborative and team-oriented approach to work

• high quality standards and ability to work effectively to meet deadlines

• strong communication skills including graphic design skills

• rigorous data management, calculation and research skills

• basic understanding of local building codes, technical standards, building structures and systems

• commitment to ongoing development of technical abilities and learning how buildings are designed, detailed and constructed

• ability to efficiently and methodically create and refine 3D models with SketchUp (mandatory) and Revit (preferred)

• experience generating architectural visualizations with Enscape

• proficiency with Vectorworks 2D, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator are assets

• experience in production of design and construction documents for rezoning and permit applications is an asset

Salary, Benefits and Perks

Salary will be $60,000 or more, commensurate with experience and ability of the applicant.
