The Killarney Community Centre Ice Rink is the final phase of the overall replacement of the original 1960s facility. Built as a training venue for short-track speed skating for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, the ice rink was later adapted for community hockey, figure skating and recreational use. A vibrant coloured-glass clerestory casts vivid hues of violet, blue and fuchsia deep into the frosty-white ice rink interior. The complex is entered from a landscaped forecourt into a new light-filled lobby that serves the ice rink and existing swimming pool and community facilities. A sculpted berm and bosque of pine trees contrasts the monumentality of the ice rink.
